Q: I run more than one operating system (Windows, Mac and Linux). If I buy the game on one platform can I play it on another?
A: Your license code will work on multiple machines, even if they are on different platforms. To install the game on multiple platforms, install regularly on the first machine. Then download the demo for the other platform from playgreenhouse.com and install normally. When you are prompted for a license code, use the same code that was provided to you when you made your original purchase.
Q: I bought the game, but now decided that I want to run it on another platform. Can I have a refund?
A: You can run the game on multiple platforms with one license code. To install on another platform, download the demo for that platform from playgreenhouse.com and install. When you are prompted for a license code, use the same code that was provided to you when you made your original purchase.
Q: If I buy the game for Xbox 360, can I also play it on my PC?
A: The licensing system used by Microsoft for Xbox LIVE Arcade games is completely separate from the system used by playgreenhouse.com. So if you purchase the game on Xbox 360, you will still need to purchase a license from playgreenhouse.com in order to play on a PC platform.
Q: When I enter my license code, I get an error, and "Error 5" is in the bottom left corner and I can't proceed. How can I fix this?
A: This error sometimes occurs when attempting to authenticate the game behind restrictive firewalls or proxy servers. A software update of Episode One was released on May 24, 2008 which addresses this issue for most players. To get this update, visit playgreenhouse.com and download the build for the platform you are playing on.

Q: When I enter my license code, I get an error, and "Error 12" is in the bottom left corner and I can't proceed. How can I fix this?

Q: When I enter my license code, I get an error, and "Error 21" is in the bottom left corner and I can't proceed. How can I fix this?
A: This error sometimes occurs for users that are running non-English versions of Windows. It was resolved in a software update of Episode One released on May 24, 2008. To get this update, download the game from www.playgreenhouse.com and re-install the build.
Q: When I enter my license code on my Linux build, I get an error, and "Error 4" is in the bottom left corner and I can't proceed. How can I fix this?
This error actually means that the computer cannot resolve the hostname for the license authorization server. Some users experience this on Linux because of their network configuration. To resolve it, open the file /etc/nsswitch.conf. Find the line that reads:
hosts: files mdns4_minimal [NOTFOUND=return] dns mdns4
and change it to:
hosts: files dns mdns4
Q: In the launch menu, I click on the End User License Agreement link, but nothing happens. How can I view the EULA?
A: When you click on the link to view the EULA, the game opens a HTML file, requesting that the system launch the default application for viewing HTML files. On most computers this opens the default browser, but may not work depending on your local setup. If you wish to view the EULA manually, you can find it in the same directory that contains your game, in the file named eula.html. Browse to that directory and double click on eula.html to view.
Q: When I start the game, I get an error that says "Could not find a compatible display device". What does this mean?
A: This error is displayed if the game believes your computer does not have sufficient graphics hardware to run the game. Very often however it can be resolved by downloading the latest drivers for your video card. Check with your video card manufacturer for the latest drivers. If that does not resolve the problem, contact support@hotheadgames.com and we will do what we can to help you get up and running with the game.
Q: I downloaded the Windows installer, but when I run it I get an error that says "NSIS: Error Launching Installer". How can I get the installer to run?
A: If you have placed the installer file in a path that contains extended characters (often the case when running a non-English version of Windows), the installer will not run. To work around this issue, place the donwloaded file in the root directory of your computer's C: drive and then run it.
Q: Midway through the game, I get an error with "Error 666" in the bottom left corner and the game exits. Why?
A: This error means that the game cannot continue because your build has become corrupted. First, ensure you have downloaded the game from a reliable source like playgreenhouse.com. If this still occurs, you can reinstall the game from the original installer file that you downloaded. Re-installing the game will not affect your save games or game settings. If you continue to have problems with this error, contact Hothead Support.
Q: I see a lot of tearing in the graphics and would like to have vsync enabled. Is there a way to do this?

Q: My game is running really choppy and it is hard to control the mouse pointer. How can I make it play better?
If the performance of your computer is too low, the game may run with a low frame rate, making it appear choppy and making the mouse difficult to control. If this happens, open the Options in the game and select "Standard" graphics. Set the "Resomolution" setting to a lower value. This may increase your frame rate and make the game more responsive.
Q: Where does the game store my save files? Can I transfer them between computers and between platforms?
Save games can be transferred between the Windows, Mac and Linux versions. On Windows XP, your save games are stored in C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application Data\HotheadGames\RainSlickEp1\. On Windows Vista, your save games are stored in C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\HotheadGames\RainSlickEp1\. On Mac, they are in /Users/<username>/Library/Preferences/HotheadGames/RainSlickEp1/. On Linux, you can find your save games in ~/.HotheadGames/RainSlickEp1/. On all platforms, save game files end with the extension .sav.
Q: I heard there was a new update of the game released. Where can I get it?
To get the latest version of the game, always download from playgreenhouse.com. New updates are not released as patches, but rather we replace the entire build with the newest version. When you visit the game page, you can simply click to download the demo, and install it directly on top of your old version without uninstalling. If you have already authorized your version, the new downloaded version will normally work without requiring re-authorization. Also note that the game is distributed on other sites but they may not have the latest version, so to be sure always check on Greenhouse for the latest.
Q: I am hearing crackling audio. Is there any way to make it sound better?
This is a problem most commonly experienced by users with Sigmatel brand audio hardware in their computer. In the Options screen, there are two checkboxes related to audio that you can check, and turning one or both of them on may resolve your problem. When changing those settings be sure to restart the game to ensure that the settings fully take effect. If you do not have Sigmatel audio hardware those options may not even be available because on some hardware enabling them can cause loud, distored noises to come out of your speakiers. For advanced users, there is a way to enable the options regardless of what audio hardware you have. For details on these advanced solutions, or if you continue to experience audio problems after trying this solution, contact Hothead Support.
